My mother suffered from amnesia and Alzheimer’s during the last two years of her life. This disease took her away from us, even though she had an aspiration to live. Amnesia was a strange disease to my siblings and I, as the loss of memory was getting worse over time. With this vision in my mind, I painted a picture of a compassionate mother. Pomegranate is a symbol of life and hope magnified in the center of the painting. The green background indicates a long and healthy life, while the ups and downs represent the hardships of life. She was a great carpet weaver and also loved the deep red color of pomegranate, so the background of the central part is painted red. The vertical dashed lines tell us a story of pain and suffering in life. Those who take these paths easily are truly gifted.
